For me, 2021 is the year of boxing films.
First Toofan, which was the most anticipated film of 2020 but was delayed due to a pandemic and released in 2021. The first teaser of the film with 'Gehre Andhere' soundtrack did show a lot of promise but Toofan turned out to be Nisarg cyclone, but I think it's a one time watch.
Toofan was followed by Mukkabaaz, based on the recommendation, a 2018 film which shows boxing in the realistic way in the country and we get to see Mike Tyson of Uttar Pradesh. Vineet Singh steals the show. This is an incredible film which is based on true events, a bit long but too good. I regret not watching at the time of release and now Sarpatta Parambarai, I don't know what to say about this film. I wanted to sleep on this gloomy Saturday afternoon while rain incessantly poured outside but I chose to watch this film and oh man..while I am writing about it, I am still in that boxing era.
The film engages you from the first credit itself and the Title of the film appears after the first long sequence, it felt so much like Avengers with rousing background score. I was so impressed with the opening sequence that I knew I was in for a ride. The film progression for the end goal somehow comes in the middle and there is a lot packed in the second half which eventually makes it to a grand climax. This film excels in all the technical aspects of the filmmaking and transports us to the 1970s. Each character is given enough screen time to shine and phenomenal performances by each one of them. The film is almost 3 hours long but each minute and frame is worth it and I don't think there is a single dull moment. In fact, there are many moments which are applaud worthy during the film as you are invested in the character and feel the same. This film will grasp your attention as it is not the one which you can pause and resume like any other film/series. I wish it was released in the film theatres. This is a masterpiece which Bollywood is definitely going to remake and spoil it with a Badshah’s rap song. So watch it now on Amazon Prime.
