This is not a review of the series, it's an appreciation post for superb editing in Ep.4 (Stick to the team). This article contains SPOILERS but if you have made up your mind that irrespective of hype you don't want to watch the series, then this article may spark some interest in you to watch it. And if you have already watched the series, do let me know what you think in the comments below.
The series is already breaking all the streaming records and for a reason. They have used some old style Bollywood technique about breaking into a place but barring that, it's a great watch. I also think that it gets a bit slow towards the 2nd half but it could be because you get so much in the first half and you expect the same in the 2nd half as well.
There is already a lot of talk about the red light green light game, but for me the best game was Tug Of war which is played towards the end of Ep.4. Players are asked to form a team of 10 in 10 minutes. It is established early in the episode that there is already a team of 5 players which comprises 3 men, a woman and an old man. As players are not aware which games they will play next and they think that their team is already weak with a woman and an old man on their side, they decide to get more mens in their team. Each of the existing team players go to find one another player which will make their team count to 10 players. Eventually the team is formed and the composition is 6 men, 3 women and an old man. These are our protagonists for this game.

With the quirky background score, the game is revealed to the players and there is disappointment, confusion and fear on all the players faces. The game is not played in a ground but it's played on the elevated platforms which is about a multi-storied building. To reach the platform, you have to take an elevator. Which two teams will compete is decided by a draw. The first 2 teams to compete have all the men in it and as a viewer we are made aware about the game mechanics by the end of it. After the game is over between the first two teams, we get to see the faces of the protagonist team players while the voice assistant calls out the players who are eliminated. That’s some editing, simply awesome.
The next team to compete is the protagonist team versus the men's team. Protagonist team has already lost hopes looking at their own team composition versus their opponents. Our heart beats faster as the players approach the elevator for the game. All hopes are lost, but the old man tries to motivate the team by suggesting that they can still win this game even if the opponent is strong if they apply the right strategy. Only the team leader is willing to listen to what the old man has to say. As the old man starts narrating the strategy, we see the visuals of the players getting ready for the game in slow motion with the intense background score. The doubts, fears and determination in the protagonist team and the overconfidence in the opponent team is seen. This is where the heartbeats are at peak as the game is about to begin. As the game begins, you are on the edge of the seat, totally involved in the scene. The strategy works perfectly fine and you start getting comfortable but it’s still not over, the opponent team holds the ground and makes a comeback and is on the verge of winning the game. As a viewer I am frightened out of your wits, but then the protagonist team decides to do course correction by taking 3 steps forward which may result in them losing the game and that’s where the episode ends leaving us on a cliffhanger. This is where you find yourself hooked to the Squid Game!
